45 Villages in Mizoram Still Without Electricity, Minister Informs Assembly

Estimated read time 1 min read

Despite infrastructure advancements, 45 villages in Mizoram remain un-electrified or de-electrified, as reported by Power and Electricity Minister F. Rodingliana. Under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), electrification efforts are underway, with contractors selected and material supplies approved and beginning to arrive. However, transformer damage poses a significant issue; 71 units are awaiting repairs, though many areas continue to receive power via back-feeding from functioning transformers. Delays in transformer maintenance stem from the need for formal surveys and approvals, compounded by manpower shortages and poor road conditions hampering transport to repair workshops. Rodingliana also noted plans to replace corroded electric poles, with ₹2.70 crore allocated for the 2025–26 year, while addressing high demand for Low Tension line extensions based on funding availability.
