Though 5 bodies remain missing in the tragedy caused by catastrophic cyclone Remal which hit Mizoram on May 28, the central committee of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) will call off mass search and rescue operations of the missing people from Monday.
Central YMA leaders on Sunday said that the mass search operation involving large numbers of volunteers from units of the civil society in the capital Aizawl city and members of its units in the disaster-struck villages and surrounding villages will be officially called off on Monday afternoon after a function to be held at Melthumneighbourhood of Aizawl where maximum number of people numbering 19 died due to landslides and mudslides.
It is a Mizo tradition that mass search for missing people, whether due to natural calamity or accidents, are to be formally concluded on the seventh day. The YMA leaders said that though the mass search and rescue operation is formally closed, continuation of the operation is most likely to continue by close relatives of the victims as well as volunteers of the victim villages.
