The Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) election registered a healthy voter turnout of 83.99 per cent.
The election was conducted smoothly on Wednesday across 25 Member of District Council (MDC) constituencies under the Council. The electorate collectively comprised 56,873 registered voters — 27,854 men and 29,019 women.
According to official records, Sakeilui constituency witnessed the highest turnout at 94.59 percent, while Lawngtlai–Chandmary constituency registered the lowest at 73.54 percent. Notably, Sakeilui also has the highest number of electors with 3,993 voters. On the other hand, Cheural constituency has the lowest voter strength at 1,381. Altogether, 111 polling stations were set up for the election to facilitate smooth voting. Among them, four were classified as unmotorable — three accessible only on foot while one reachable by boat – underscoring the difficult geographical terrain and challenging situation for voters in some parts of the state.
The election saw broad spectrum of political representation in the fray with the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) fielding candidates in all 25 constituencies, while the Mizo National Front (MNF) contested 20 seats. The Congress (INC) fielded 14 candidates, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested in 10 constituencies. Additionally, 11 Independent candidates joined the fray.
The counting of votes is scheduled for December 9, 2025.
The current term of the sitting MDCs will come to an end on December 18, 2025. The Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) is one of the three Autonomous District Councils in south-eastern Mizoram. It covers the Lawngtlai and Sangau subdivisions of the Lawngtlai district The LADC’s headquarters are in Lawngtlai town, which is the district capital of the Lawngtlai district. The council has a total strength of 29 members, out of which 25 are directly elected by the people and four are nominated by the Governor on the recommendation of the chief executive member of the LADC.
