A detention room for disruptive MLAs will be introduced by the Assam Assembly

In a move to enhance parliamentary discipline, the Assam Legislative Assembly is establishing a detention room within its complex for suspended MLAs who disrupt proceedings. Speaker Biswajit Daimary confirmed that the Assembly Secretariat will draft the operational rules for this facility. The initiative follows ongoing disruptions caused by suspended MLA Akhil Gogoi, who has faced multiple suspensions due to clashes with the Treasury Bench. Minister Bimal Borah has supported the creation of this disciplinary space as a means to curb disturbances. Speaker Daimary emphasized the necessity of this measure to uphold order in the Assembly.
