Akashvani Director and Mizoram Cluster Head, Pu DR Lalropuia, has reaffirmed the enduring relevance of radio in the region, noting that the medium continues to resonate with audiences even as new technologies reshape the communications landscape. Speaking at the 30th anniversary celebration of Akashvani Lunglei, he said radio “still speaks to the hearts of many people,” adding that its appeal remains strong across Mizoram. He highlighted the need for staff to embrace modern broadcasting tools and encouraged Akashvani employees to learn and utilise the latest technologies to enhance their work.
Pu DR Lalropuia also shared updates on the ongoing development of Akashvani Lunglei, noting that efforts are underway to upgrade the station with state-of-the-art facilities. He reminded attendees that Akashvani Lunglei was the first station in Mizoram to introduce FM broadcasting, laying the foundation for the medium’s popularity in the state. Asst. Director (Programme), Pu Biakchungnunga, also addressed the gathering. He noted that listeners across southern Mizoram, particularly in Lunglei district, hold Akashvani Lunglei in high regard. He added that the station enjoys some of the highest levels of appreciation on social media among stations in the North East. Akashvani, he said, remains an important platform for showcasing local culture and identity, and he urged employees to give their best to maintain the trust of listeners. He further encouraged staff to make effective use of modern technologies and to strengthen teamwork.
Established in 1995, Akashvani Lunglei celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. More than 20 employees from Aizawl Akashvani and field stations in Champhai, Kolasib, Tipa and Siaha attended the event. The Lunglei station currently employs nine regular staff, three technical assistants and 49 casual assignee.
