Maruti Suzuki has officially inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi presiding over the event. The ceremony also included the launch of India’s first plant dedicated to producing hybrid battery electrodes. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Japanese Ambassador Keiichi Ono were also in attendance. This facility will act as a major production hub for the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, which was initially unveiled in Europe in late 2024 and later showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. Built on the 40PL electric vehicle platform developed jointly with Toyota, the e-Vitara will have a counterpart—the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV.
Additionally, the Hansalpur plant will support local manufacturing of batteries for the Grand Vitara Hybrid. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the TDS Li-Ion Battery Gujarat (TDSG) facility, which will produce lithium-ion battery cells and electrodes for strong hybrid vehicles. This plant is a collaboration between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki. The TDSG battery features a 48-cell stack, weighs 18 kg per module, and delivers 0.6 kWh capacity. Its design, made using aluminium die-cast materials, enhances both durability and thermal efficiency.
