The police authorities have been asking for community assistance after the protests in Kakwa transformed into violent ones, and reports state that automatic rifles are being used against police vehicles. It is pleading on neighborhood associations and authorities to step in and put an end to the bloodshed so that the community can return to peace. High-ranking law enforcement officials convened a press conference this morning to address the mounting tensions around the loss of an unborn child resulting from the acts of a police operation. After noticing a shift in the gerais approach, Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta declared, “My bullet-proof vehicle was hit by automatic burst rounds.”
He claimed that today, instead of finding slings and stones on cars, his truck is firing against them. According to the authorities, senior citizens in the neighborhood contributed to calming and pacifying the situation in Singjamei Waikhom Leikai. After they forced the young people who were demonstrating to leave, the entire area quickly returned to calm. Governments are pleading with residents and civil society organizations not to organize violent protests. To solve the issue through dialogue and cooperation rather than violent protests, local associations and organizations must be consulted.
Prior to this, the Manipur government on Sunday loosened the curfew restrictions in five districts for a few hours in the morning while also extending the ban on mobile internet services in five districts for an additional five days, until September 20. The state government on September 10 halted mobile internet access in five districts (Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching) for five days till September 15 following two days of violent occurrences and student protests.However, on September 12, the state administration kept the mobile internet ban in place while resuming broadband and fixed lease line internet access in five Manipur Valley districts.
