An incident between the convoy of Mizoram’s Power Minister Pu F. Rodingliana and the Assam Rifles has aroused debate. It claims that the paramilitary personnel intentionally stopped the Minister’s vehicle. Assam Rifles has offered a detailed reply to the claims. The incident occurred on October 17, 2024, in Zokhawsang in Mizoram. According to Assam Rifles, the convoy of Minister Pu F. Rodingliana, consisting of four vehicles, was allowed to pass through the checkpoint in accordance with standard protocols.
The Assam Rifles emphasized that their soldiers did not violently stop the truck. According to the Assam Rifles, the convoy was granted clear passage, and the decision to stop was made by the Minister’s convoy itself. Soon after the confrontation, numerous Assam Rifles installations in Mizoram had power shortages, which were considered to be purposeful attempts to hinder operations. The Assam Rifles criticized these actions as an attempt to incite a confrontation and paint the paramilitary force in a poor way. Despite the Minister’s staff’s inflammatory actions, Assam Rifles personnel maintained restraint and prevented the situation from worsening.
The Assam Rifles said that the Minister’s convoy had previously been cleared to pass. When the soldiers replied that they were performing routine duties, the Minister’s staff forced the jawan into a car and drove him to a nearby village. The jawan was only released after the intervention of his commanding commander. The Assam Rifles stressed that this behavior obstructed military men from performing their authorized tasks and was an obvious attempt to damage the jawan’s character.
