52 cases of cigarettes of foreign origin were seized by the Assam Rifles on Monday in Champhai district, near Tlangsam, near the Tiau River on the India-Myanmar border, as part of a major crackdown on smuggling activities. The security forces conducted a targeted operation in the region in response to particular intelligence inputs. The team found a sizable cache of illegal cigarettes with an estimated market value of Rs 67.60 lakh after conducting a thorough search. According to a press release, the confiscated goods were turned over to the Champhai Customs and Preventive Force for additional examination and legal action.
