Assam Rifles seize significant contraband in Melbuk

Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Police Department, Zokhawthar, Mizoram, achieved another success in their ongoing crackdown against smuggling activities. On June 28, 2024, a joint operation recovered seven soap cases containing Heroin No.4, totaling 80,000 grams with an approximate value of Rs. 56,00,000/-, in Melbuk. The operation also led to the apprehension of an individual from Sairang Dintar Veng, Aizawl.

In a separate operation during a special Area Domination Patrol in Ruantlang, Champhai, Assam Rifles seized 273 bags of Areca Nuts valued at Rs. 1.52 Crore. The combined value of the recovered illegal items from both operations amounted to approximately Rs. 2.08 Crore. These operations were conducted based on specific information received.

The seized contraband and the apprehended individual were handed over to the Police Department, Zokhawthar, and the Customs Department, Champhai, on June 28, 2024, for further legal proceedings, as stated in the press release.
