In a significant development in their ongoing efforts to combat smuggling activities, Assam Rifles has intercepted a consignment of Heroin No 4 weighing 480 grams, with an estimated value of Rs 3.36 crore, in Zokhawthar Champhai district.The operation, conducted jointly by Assam Rifles and representatives from the Zokhawthar Police Department, was based on specific intelligence. Following the successful interception, both the seized heroin and the apprehended individual have been handed over to the Zokhawthar Police Department for further legal action.
The rampant smuggling of contraband items remains a pressing concern for both Mizoram and India as a whole. Since the beginning of January 2024, Assam Rifles in Mizoram has conducted several operations, resulting in the seizure of 4.009 kilograms of Heroin No 4, along with 3,32,308 tablets of Meth-Amphetamine, collectively valued at 123.49 crores.
Additionally, contraband items with a worth of Rupees 8.18 crore have been confiscated. This brings the total value of seized drugs and contraband items, including recovered exotic animals, to over Rs 130 crore since the start of 2024.
