Assam Rifles seizes heroin worth Rs 9.7 crore in Mizoram, apprehends three

In a significant blow to smuggling activities, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with local police, recovered 112 soap cases of Heroin No. 4, weighing approximately 1387 grams and valued at ₹9,70,90,000, in a series of operations in Champhai District, Mizoram. The raids, conducted on the Melbuk, Zote, and Champhai-Aizawl road, led to the apprehension of three individuals.

The operations were meticulously planned and executed by teams from Assam Rifles, the Police Department in Zokhawthar, and the Police Department in Champhai, based on specific intelligence inputs. The seizures were made in three separate operations conducted in a single night. In Melbuk, 146 grams of Heroin No. 4 was recovered. Another 22 grams were seized in Zote, and a substantial 1219 grams were confiscated on the Champhai-Aizawl road. The three smugglers, residents of Kahrawt and New Champhai, were apprehended during a special Area Domination Patrol.

The total consignment, weighing approximately 1387 grams and valued at ₹9,70,90,000, was seized and the individuals were handed over to the Police Departments of Zokhawthar and Champhai on May 30, 2024, for further legal proceedings.
