Bawngkawn Police recover 30 phones using CEIR, return them to owners

Bawngkawn Police Station successfully returned 30 recovered mobile phones to their rightful owners today, traces the lost phones using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system. The handover took place at Bawngkawn Police Station OC Room  According to officials, the 30 phones were recovered between August 19 and September 19. Since March 2025, Bawngkawn Police have recovered a total of 230 mobile phones, with an estimated value of approximately ₹57 lakh.

In addition to tracking lost phones, the Bawngkawn Police have also made significant progress in law enforcement. A total of 13 individuals have been arrested in connection with drug-related offenses under the ND&PS Act. Furthermore, 148 people were apprehended for violating the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations within the station’s jurisdiction.

Speaking to Reporters, Bawngkawn Officer-in-Charge, Pu Vanlalpeka DSP (Probation), highlighted the effectiveness of the CEIR application in recovering lost phones. He explained that the system reveals all SIM cards used in a lost device along with the user details, allowing the police to trace the phone’s current holder. “We have recovered over 200 phones this year using the CEIR app,” he stated.
