The Mizo Bawngsa Zuar (beef sellers) Association has issued a strong demand for the expulsion and stoppage of non-Mizo individuals engaged in what they term as “illegal” beef selling business within Mizoram.
In a press conference held on Wednesday, H. Lalhmingthanga, president of MBZA, emphasized the longstanding tradition of beef selling among Mizos. However, he lamented the recent influx of non-local individuals into the market without proper authorization, even conducting sales on Sundays, a sacred and holy day for worship among the Mizos.
Expressing concern, the association stressed the necessity of upholding local control over beef sales. Lalhmingthanga pointed out that many of these non-Mizo traders, predominantly from Bihar belonging to Muslim community, lack the requisite permissions and were originally granted Inner Line Permits (ILPs) for purposes unrelated to beef vending.
