A two day Capacity Building Workshop “Building Resilient Communities – Women and Sustainable Ecosystem in North East Region” was started today at I&PR Auditorium, Aizawl. The workshop will cover varied topics including impact of climate change in livelihoods, women’s role in disaster resilience, market dynamics & technology adoption and knowledge sharing on banking linkages. This workshop was jointly organized by National Commission for Women, New Delhi and Mizoram State Commission for Women. In the inaugural session of the workshop, Smt. Delina Khongdup, Member, National Commission for Women addressed the gathering. She highlighted the various initiatives taken by the National Commission for Women. She noted the impact women have on society and encouraged the participants to be forerunners of positive change in society.Smt. Lalzarmawii, Commissioner & Secretary, Social Welfare, Tribal Affairs and Women and Child Development Department also spoke on the occasion, expressing her wish that the workshop have a productive outcome.
Smt. K. Lalremruati, Interim Chairperson, Mizoram State Commission for Women welcomed the participants and Smt. Mina Zoliani, Joint Director, I&PR Dept. who’s the facilitator for the workshop led the technical session. Today’s workshop was divided in two sessions with the first session delving into the theme ‘The Impact of Climate Change on Livelihoods’ where Smt. Lalrawmmawii Sailo, IFS (Rtd.) and Smt. Lalhruaitluangi, Dy. Director from UD&PA Department were the panelists. The second session explored the role of women in disaster resilience. Shri Rokima Chenkual, Dy. Director of DM&R Department and Shri Lalnunsanga, DFO from EF&CC Dept were the panelists for the session. After a lively interactive session, the day ended with a vote of thanks from Smt. Zonunpari Sailo, Member Secretary, Mizoram State Commission for Women. The workshop will continue tomorrow in the presence of Shri Abhishek Tyagi, Section Officer, National Commission for Women, where Smt.
Maria CT Zuali, Director, Commerce & Industries Dept., Smt. Lalsangpuii, Jt. Director, Commerce & Industries Dept., Dr. Lalkhawngaihi Renthlei, CEO, State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB) Directorate of AYUSH, Dr. Lalrammuana Sailo, Consultant, SMPB, Directorate of AYUSH, Smt. Lucy Zaithangpuii, Jt. Director of Horticulture Department, Dr. Vanlalremruati Hnamte, Dy. Director of Horticulture Department will be the panelists.The Capacity Building Workshop was attended by healers and traders of traditional medicine from AYUSH; Self Help Groups, UD&PA Department; Farmers and collectors, Department of Horticulture; NTFP collectors, Environment, Forest & Climate Change Department; Women working at the grassroots level, Anganwadi Workers, WCD; State Disaster Management Authorities, State Rural Livelihood Missions, and members from various MHIP Branches in the state as well as from the media.
