South Mizoram’s Lunglei district administration officials have dismantled 10 buildings, located along the National Highway 54 linking Aizawl and Tuipang town in southernmost Siaha district, owned by families who had been awarded compensation and who continued to vacate or dismantle their buildings. Five such houses were demolished on Tuesday at Zobawk South village after being repeatedly served show cause notices and eviction orders by the district administration officials. The team of officials headed by K.Lalhlimpuia, Assistant Sattlement Officer and Executive Magistrate, on behalf of the deputy commissioner/district magistrate, undertook dismantling of the
Lunglei district deputy commissioner Ramdinliani, who is also Competent Authority on Land Acquisition (CALA), had served several eviction orders to the land and building owners along the NH54 to vacate and tear down their buildings as widening of the highway has been in progress. Despite several warnings, there are some people who had already received compensation who refuse to vacate and dismantle their buildings.
Demolition of buildings along the NH54 began on March 5 when a building was razed to the ground at Tawipui South village, followed by 4 buildings being demolished at Thualthu village. An official statement on Tuesday said that one building each at Zobawk North and Dawn villages will be dismantled with excavator again on Wednesday. EOM
