An Art and Photo Exhibition showcasing the creativity of local artists and photographers is being held at Vanapa Hall in Aizawl as part of the celebrations of Chapchar Kut, one of the most significant and revered festivals of the Mizo people.
The three-day Chapchar Kut Art & Photo Exhibition is jointly organised by the Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department, the Mizoram Art Development Society (MADS) and the Mizo Photographers’ Society (MPS). The exhibition runs from 11 to 13 March and features a wide range of artworks and photographs created by local talents.
A total of 107 artworks are on display at the exhibition. These include five pencil and charcoal works, three mixed media pieces, three sculptures, 13 watercolour paintings, 80 acrylic paintings and three oil paintings.
In addition to the artworks, the Mizo Photographers’ Society is exhibiting 126 photographs captured by 39 photographers, offering diverse visual perspectives of culture, people and landscapes.
The painting exhibition was first introduced in 2012, while the photography exhibition began in 2016, and both have since become regular highlights of the Chapchar Kut celebrations.
Visitors to the exhibition can also purchase the displayed artworks and photographs directly at the venue.
Prior to the exhibition, the Mizoram Art Development Society organised an Art Camp under the aegis of ‘Zozia’, which saw the participation of 68 members, further encouraging artistic collaboration and creativity among local artists.
