OpenAI has launched a special offer for users in India, making its mid-tier AI subscription, ChatGPT Go, completely free for one year. Starting Tuesday, both new and existing users in the country can activate this plan and access premium ChatGPT features at no cost. However, to avail of the offer, users must provide a valid payment method, such as a credit/debit card or UPI, during the signup process.
ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s affordable premium plan, positioned between the free and Plus subscriptions. Typically priced at around Rs 400 per month, it offers faster response times, higher daily message limits, advanced GPT-5 tools, and additional functionalities not available in the free version. Users can generate and edit images, upload documents such as PDFs, spreadsheets, and text files for AI analysis, manage longer conversations with larger datasets, and enjoy smarter, context-aware responses using built-in memory for personalized interactions.
To claim the free plan, users need to log in or sign up on the ChatGPT website or app, navigate to Settings → Subscription, select the ChatGPT Go plan under the India promotion, add a payment method, and verify their account. Activation instantly upgrades the account for 12 months free. Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers are also automatically upgraded.
The plan includes GPT-5 access, faster responses, increased message and file limits, priority access during busy hours, and personalized memory. However, it does not include OpenAI API access, older models, third-party integrations, or manual control of GPT-5’s Thinking Mode. The payment method ensures identity verification and enables automatic billing after the free year. Users should cancel before the 12 months end to avoid charges.
