The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mizoram, Pu Lalduhoma, who is currently in New Delhi, held a meeting today with Commodore Rajiv Ashok (Retd), Managing Director of the National Handloom Development Corporation Limited (NHDCL), at Mizoram House. The meeting focused on exploring avenues to strengthen and modernize the handloom sector in Mizoram.
Key points discussed during the meeting included:
- Setting up of a Yarn Warehouse in Mizoram.
- Increasing the use of local handloom products in various government offices and important establishments within the state, and upgrading to modern electronic Jacquard handlooms to improve the quality and variety of handloom products.
- Providing continuous skill upgradation for weavers and facilitating wider exposure across the country.
- Enabling experts from the National Handloom Development Corporation Limited to assist in the significant advancement of Mizoram’s handloom sector.
- Exploring possibilities for Mizoram to produce more yarn from mulberry silk.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Pi R. Lalrodingi, OSD to CM, and Pu Lalrinawma Khiangte, PS to CM.
