Piped natural gas will soon be available to households in Mizoram, as the Tripura–Mizoram gas pipeline project is on track for completion by 2027. Currently, over 20% of the 119.5-kilometre pipeline has been laid, facilitating improved energy access in the state, particularly in Aizawl. Recent discussions between a delegation from Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma addressed the project’s status and challenges, including terrain and logistics.
The pipeline will begin at the Panisagar Receiving Terminal in Tripura, travel through multiple locations in Mizoram, and end at the Sihhmui Receiving Terminal, about 21 kilometres from Aizawl. Once operational, Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited will provide domestic gas connections in Aizawl city. This initiative is part of the North East Natural Gas Pipeline Grid, which aims to enhance clean energy infrastructure in the region, with the Panisagar–Sihhmui stretch forming part of a broader effort encompassing 723 kilometres of pipeline from Guwahati to Aizawl via Agartala.
