Union Home Minister Amit Shah backed the Assam Rifles’ land transfer to the state government, according to Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma. He also remarked that his name would be remembered and inscribed in Mizoram’s history. The Chief Minister, speaking at the event planned to transfer the Assam Rifles land to the Mizoram government and move the Assam Rifles facilities from Aizawl to Zokhawsang, stated that the move of the Assam Rifles complex from Aizawl is a long-awaited step that will have a big impact on the growth of the city.
He praised Lt. Gen. Vikas Lakhera, Director General of the Assam Rifles, for helping to make the move a success. Lalduhoma further thanked Tapan Deka, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan for their contributions to this effort. The Chief Minister emphasized that Aizawl’s rapid growth calls for infrastructure upgrades, and that Mizoram, being a hilly state, faces particular difficulties in urban planning.
The Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, has expressed confidence in the relocation of Assam Rifles to make Aizawl a more liveable city. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Assam Rifles and the Mizoram government in October 2024, outlining the relocation process and land transfer terms. The relocation was delayed due to Assam Rifles’ claims of unprepared infrastructure. The Zokhawsang complex was inaugurated in April 2023.
