College of Horticulture, Thenzawl Celebrates its’ 9th Foundation Day

The College of Horticulture, Thenzawl, celebrated its 9th Foundation Day today. Mizoram Agriculture Minister Pu PC Vanlalruata graced the occasion as Chief Guest and congratulated the faculty, staff, and students on the milestone. The Agriculture Minister commended the college for its steady growth since its establishment in 2016. “With dedicated faculty, smart classrooms, and students from across India, this college has become a centre of quality education and hands-on training,” he said. He also appreciated the college’s outreach to farmers through training programmes, natural farming initiatives, and biofertilizer production. “Your support to farmers is commendable and vital for improving livelihoods,” he remarked.

Pu Vanlalruata reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting agricultural institutions and encouraged students to apply their knowledge in ways that benefit Mizoram’s farming community. “You have a key role to play in shaping the future of agriculture,” he told the students. The Minister concluded by calling the College of Horticulture a valuable asset to the state and expressed hope for its continued growth and excellence. Dean Dr. Shri Dhar highlighted the crucial role of horticulture in Mizoram’s development. “Horticulture is a key driver of economic growth in the state. I am hopeful that it will continue to uplift the rural economy and contribute significantly to Mizoram’s prosperity,” he said.

Originally established on June 18, 2016, at Selesih, the College of Horticulture shifted to its present campus in Thenzawl on July 1, 2019. Spanning 120.38 hectares, the college is now home to 1 Dean, 1 Associate Professor, 12 Assistant Professors, and 33 non-teaching staff. Currently, it has 96 students—39 male and 57 female—with a state quota of 6 seats allotted for students from Mizoram
