Congress workers  staged a ‘save democracy’ rally in Aizawl criticizing the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of undermining democracy and electoral process in the country. Speaking on the occasion, Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee vice chairman Lalnunmawia Chuaungo, who is also the party campaign committee chairman for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, said that democracy has to be saved from being undermined under the BJP regime. He alleged that there are no more free and fair elections in the country under the BJP rule and urged the people to vote for Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls to sustain democracy. Hitting out at the NDA government, Chuaungo said that the Modi government has failed to fulfill its pre-poll promises of generating employment for youths and sending them abroad for jobs. He said that about 65 per cent of educated youths across the country are unemployed and because of its poor performance, the youth have lost faith in the NDA government.

The Congress leader alleged that the NDA is doing its best to undermine the INDIA bloc because the BJP led NDA is fully aware of its strength that it would not be able to retain power and that INDIA block is the only alternative to replace the NDA government. He said that Congress and other opposition parties have been attacked by the NDA government through the Income Tax department and 11 bank accounts of Congress have been seized to make the party unable to campaign ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. He said that many people who follow Hinduism are strongly opposed to the ideologies and actions of Hindu radical groups like  the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and their political wing BJP.

Chuaungo also said that the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was just a political ploy and there was no concrete evidence against the crime he has been accused of. The rally was also addressed by former minister and Congress leader Vanlalawmpui Chawngthu and Zoram Decentralisation Front (ZDF) president Lawmthang. Congress has fielded retired Mizoram Police Service (MPS) officer and former state home secretary Lalbiakzama(64) for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Polling for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the state will be held on April 19.
