Breaking an age-old tradition, the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government, led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, held the State Council of Ministers’ meeting in Lunglei, the largest town in southern Mizoram, on Tuesday. This marks the first time that the Council of Ministers has convened outside the state capital, Aizawl.

Despite inclement weather and the potential risk of landslides, the ministers made the journey to Lunglei by road on Monday, demonstrating the government’s commitment to holding the meeting in the southern town, an official statement said. Lalduhoma emphasised the importance of this decision, stating, “We owe a lot to the people of Lunglei district and the entire southern state. This fulfils our electoral promise not to neglect Lunglei district if we form the government.”

During today’s meeting, several important proposals were passed, including the introduction of the Mizoram Banning of Unregulated Deposits Scheme Rules, 2024 (Finance Department), the draft Mizoram Ground Water (Control & Regulation) Rules, 2024 (PHE Department), an amendment to the Mizoram Water Supplies (Control) Rules, 2023 (PHE Department), the Mizoram Wood Based Industries (Establishment & Regulation) (Amendment) Rules, 2024 (EF&CC Department) and a review of the remuneration for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Executive Corporators, Corporators, Executive Councillors, and Councillors (UD & PA Department).
