Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, along with various dignitaries, arrived in Aizawl on Thursday to attend the 21st Annual Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), India Region, Zone-III, scheduled for Friday and Saturday. They were received at the lone Lengpui Airport by Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama, Deputy Speaker Lalfamkima, Lok Sabha MP Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, and other officials. The itinerary includes an Executive Committee meeting this evening at 7:00 pm in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly Committee Room.
On Friday, Lok Sabha Speaker will inaugurate the newly established Archive Cell at the Mizoram Legislative Assembly Library at 11:00 am, followed by the commencement of the CPA Annual Conference at 11:30 am.Mizoram assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama will deliver a welcome address, followed by the keynote speech by Nagaland Speaker and CPA Zone-III Chairman Sharingain Longkumer. Om Birla, Harivansh Narayan Singh and State Chief Minister Lalduhoma, will also address the gathering. The first session will focus on ‘Inclusion of the Northeast Region in the India-ASEAN Vision for Trade and Cooperation’.
The second day of the conference will discuss the theme ‘Merging the Ministry of DoNER with NEC for better strategic planning and coordination of various projects in the region’. This will be followed by a closing session, where Lalbiakzama and Lalduhoma will deliver their remarks. Mizoram Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vanlalhlana will conclude the conference with a vote of thanks.
