In a tragic incident that has shaken the Mizoram cricket community, veteran cricketer Khawlhring Lalremruata, aged 38, collapsed and died during an official match at Suaka Cricket Ground in Sihhmui. The incident occurred during the Khaled Memorial 2nd Division Screening Tournament, organized by the Cricket Association of Mizoram (CAM), where Lalremruata was representing VRCC against Chawnpui ILMOV Cricket Club.
Eyewitnesses reported that Lalremruata had completed his batting spell and was walking off the field when he complained of severe chest discomfort. Moments later, he collapsed and lost consciousness. Despite immediate medical attention, he could not be revived. While the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed, preliminary reports suggest a possible stroke.
Born on 9 March 1987, Lalremruata was a respected figure in Mizoram’s cricketing circles. He made his first-class debut for Mizoram in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy and later played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, marking his Twenty20 debut in February 2019. Known for his discipline, dedication, and passion for the sport, Lalremruata was admired by teammates and officials alike. The Cricket Association of Mizoram has expressed deep sorrow over the loss, extending heartfelt condolences to his family. Tributes continue to pour in from across the state, remembering him as a committed sportsman whose legacy will endure.
