Mizoram University, the lone central university in the state, has made its presence felt at a major global technology forum as R. Chawngsangpuii, Associate Professor in the Department of Information Technology, attended the inaugural ceremony of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held on Thursday at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

The summit, organised by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), convened the meeting of world leaders, policymakers, leading researchers and industry executives to deliberate on the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping economies and societies. The overarching theme of the summit — “People, Planet and Progress” — underscored the need to align technological advancement with sustainability, ethical governance and inclusive development.

The inaugural session was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called for a people-centric approach to AI development. In his address, he stressed that Artificial Intelligence must remain inclusive, transparent and rooted in democratic values. Emphasising responsible innovation, he highlighted the importance of collaborative engagement among governments, academic institutions and the private sector to ensure that AI benefits humanity at large rather than deepening digital divides.

The ceremony also featured addresses by prominent global leaders and technology pioneers. Among them were Sundar Pichai, Chief Executive Officer of Google and Alphabet; Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic; António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations; and Emmanuel Macron, President of France. Their interventions focused on fostering global cooperation in AI research, strengthening ethical oversight, promoting innovation ecosystems and ensuring equitable access to emerging technologies across nations.

Chawngsangpuii participated in the summit as an official delegate representing Mizoram University. Her invitation to the prestigious platform reflects recognition of her academic and research contributions in the field of AI. Her presence at the summit signified Mizoram’s representation in high-level national and international conversations on advanced technologies.

The participation of a faculty member from Mizoram University at such a globally attended forum also highlights the expanding role of institutions from the North-East region in cutting-edge research and policy discourse. It further underscores the growing visibility and contribution of women academicians from the region in STEM disciplines.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 provided a significant platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange on harnessing Artificial Intelligence to drive sustainable development, responsible governance and inclusive economic growth, positioning India as an active stakeholder in shaping the global AI agenda.
