In a collaborative initiative between the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Lunglei and Disha Foundation, the ‘Elementary English Literacy Programme’ (EELP) was formally launched today in Lungsen Aspirational Block. The programme aims to enhance foundational English language skills among primary school students in the block.

Under the Aspirational Block Programme, ten government primary schools have been selected for the implementation of EELP. These include: Government Primary School-I, II and III in Lungsen; Govt PS Belthei; Govt PS-I and II in Lungrang South; Govt PS Rangte; Govt PS Rualalung; Govt PS Lalnutui and Govt PS Kauchhuah. As part of the launch, a pre-assessment test was conducted today to evaluate the current level of English proficiency among students.

As per the programme schedule, a ‘Teacher Training Workshop’ for English instructors from these schools will be held on July 11, 2025, at the Lungsen BDO Conference Hall. The training programme of students will be rolled out after the completion of the first term examinations of the 2025–2026 academic session and will continue until March 2026. Periodic assessments will be conducted to track student progress and learning outcomes throughout the programme duration.
