Experts welcome GST 2.0 Reforms, call it beneficial for common people and the nation

Mizoram Commissioner for State Tax HK Lalhawngliana said a Quick Response Team (QRT) has been constituted which has detected and punished at least 10 business houses in the capital Aizawl city for not decreasing the rates of their goods after the rates of Goods & Services Tax (GST) were lowered from Monday last. Lalhawngliana said that such traders were fined on the spot and the QRT continues its operation as a plethora of complaints have been received from consumers.

“We are conducting the exercise on those registered under the GST as of now, and the business houses without GST registration, but selling essential commodities will be the next target,” he said. There are between 9,000 to 10,000 shops being registered under the GST in the entire state and those traders whose annual financial transaction are 20 lakh or above are being asked to undertake registration and those who refuse will be given suo moto registration on the spot.

He said business houses refusing to reduce prices of their goods in line with reduction of GST rates from Monday last are being punished as per the anti-profiteering measure. Meanwhile, Sub-Committee on Tax and Non-Tax under the Mizoram Resource Mobilization Committee (MRMC) has been working on expansion on tax base in the urban areas especially a to launch a crackdown on those traders who are not registered under GST but has a financial annual turnover of Rs. 20 lakh with the cooperation of the local councils and the taxation department officials.
