Farmers need to be developed first in order to develop country: Union Minister

Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Bhagirath Choudhary on Thursday said that farmers should be prioritised and developed first in order to develop the country. He called for collective efforts between the Centre and state governments to develop the farmers. Choudhary , who arrived on Wednesday on a three-day visit, visited College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry (CVSc& AH), Central Agricultural University (CAU) at Selesih near Aizawl and interacted with farmers and officials of state agriculture department on Thursday

During an interaction with farmers, the visiting Union MoS emphasised the importance of empowering farmers and said that the Centre is making efforts to increase the farmers’ income by four times by 2029. He pointed out the Centre commitment towards supporting Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability in the region.

Choudhary told the meeting of officials that the government has to develop a proper plans to facilitate market for selling of crops harvested by farmers at reasonable price. He said that infrastructures should be developed to enable the farmers to store their harvest and products for a long period.

Citing that the Centre is committed to helping the state governments to improve the farmers status, Choudhary urged the officials to effectively use ‘Krishi Vigyan Kendra’ and to ensure that the farmers reap their hard works.  He also urged them to make massive efforts in the upliftment of the farmers.
