The State Tourism Department for the first time organised a year-end sunset viewing programme titled “Sakawrhmuituai Sunset’ at Sakawrhmuituai Hill in Mizoram on New Year eve.The event was attended by the Tourism Minister, Lalnghinglova Hmar, and the local MLA, Lalthansanga, who is also the Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change.Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, in his address, appreciated the dedication and cooperation of the Sihphir village leaders and residents, stating that their collective effort made the successful organisation of the programme possible. He said this reflected in practice his long-cherished vision of promoting community-based tourism. He described Sakawrhmuituai Hill as exceptionally beautiful and worthy of wider recognition, and said that the sunset viewing experience from the hill has strong potential to attract more tourists from outside Mizoram. He added that the programme would be on a larger scale in the coming years. He also expressed his hope that Sakawrhmuituai Hill would be increasingly valued by the public and that the local community of Sihphir would benefit economically from visiting tourists.
Local MLA Lalthansanga also spoke on the occasion, expressing his appreciation for the collaboration between the Tourism Department and the leaders and residents of Sihphir village in organising such a programme.The Tourism Minister was accompanied by R. Lalrodingi, Director, Tourism Department, along with other departmental officials. Besides local residents, a large number of tourists from outside Mizoram also attended the event. Popular contemporary Mizo singers entertained the crowd with performances to mark the farewell of the outgoing year and the arrival of the New Year. Food stalls and carnival activities were by the Sihphir community. With well-planned arrangements for security, medical services, and traffic management, attendees were able to enjoy the event in a safe and festive atmosphere.
