Foreign Minister Jaishankar launches Mizoram BJP manifesto, promises bold development agenda

Dr. S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister, took center stage on Thursday at the Regency Hotel in Aizawl to unveil the ‘Vision Document Highlights for Lok Sabha Election 2024,’ the manifesto of the Mizoram Pradesh BJP. The event saw the release of an ambitious roadmap for the state’s development.

Some key highlights of the manifesto include:

Healthcare Expansion: The proposal aims to double the healthcare coverage under Ayushman Bharat from 5 lakhs to 10 lakhs. Additionally, plans are outlined to upgrade the Zoram Medical College to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and allocate 1000 crores for enhancing healthcare infrastructure across Mizoram.

Education Empowerment: Plans are in place to transform Mizoram into an educational hub by establishing three Central Government Engineering colleges, two Central Government Medical colleges, Mizoram Skill Development University, and Mizoram Drone Institute. Furthermore, it is proposed to relocate the Sports University from Imphal, Manipur to Thenzawl, Mizoram.

Agricultural Rejuvenation: The manifesto promises to bolster the farming community through initiatives such as expanding the PM Kisan Niddhi scheme and allocating funds for the establishment of the Mizoram Agri Infra Mission. Efforts will also be made to establish crop-specific farmer producer organizations and promote silk production with a dedicated ‘Silk Mission.’

Rural and Urban Development: The document pledges to launch the Mizoram Rural Infiamna Mission and the Mizoram Urban Development Infrastructure Mission, with substantial financial allocations for both. Tourism Promotion: Plans include allocating funds to boost tourism and securing UNESCO World Heritage status for the Vangchhia Archaeological site. Inclusive Development: The manifesto underscores the commitment to inclusive growth and welfare for all segments of society. Sports Development: Emphasis will be placed on nurturing sporting talent in government schools and colleges through the Mizoram Sports Talent Development Programme.

Women’s Empowerment: Initiatives like scholarships for women in sports, free health kits, HPV vaccines, mammogram screenings, and various entrepreneurship schemes aim to empower women economically and socially. Social Welfare: The manifesto pledges to establish drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers across all districts and uplift certain districts to aspirational status. Regarding the fencing of the Indo-Myanmar border, Jaishankar acknowledged the shared customs and traditions between the people on both sides but emphasized the need for precautions due to the unsettling conditions in Myanmar.
