The foundation stone for the Aizawl City Beautification Project, part of the Lammual Master Plan, was laid by Chief Minister Lalduhoma at the former Assam Rifles site in Heritage Court on Tuesday. The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including UD & PA Minister K Sapdanga and other officials. The Chief Minister emphasized that the Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from different societal sections, has made decisions reflecting the collective will of the people regarding land utilization. He stated that the finalized plan will not entertain further proposals, highlighting its definitive nature.

The primary goal of this project is to transform central Aizawl into a vibrant and beautiful space intended to serve as a recreational hub for children, a welcoming environment for youth, and a comfortable place for the elderly. The Chief Minister encouraged active citizen participation for this initiative, which he described as a collective benefit. In his speech, he also urged project executors to approach their responsibilities diligently.

The program was chaired by Lalmalsawma Pachuau, with Rev. R. Lalbiakliana leading an invocation. Jacob Lalawmpuia, Director, UD & PA, presented a brief report outlining key project features. Among these features are the construction of a new road connecting Saron Veng to the Head Post Office, and the widening of existing roads in the city center, with an estimated budget of Rs 23 crore already sanctioned for these improvements to be carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD).

Additional developments include the creation of Aizawl Square, a new power substation to support the central area, and the construction of a new Vanapa Hall with a 2,000 seating capacity. Furthermore, a large water reservoir at Tuizem and public seating areas at Baja Hill will be developed. Plans also include constructing a park at Canteen Square, an amphitheater near the Post Office, multi-level car parking, scenic viewpoints, green zones, and walking trails across the area. The beautification and redevelopment of Heritage Court is also planned, encompassing the renovation and demolition of structures as necessary, with Rs. 13 crore allocated for these activities, also overseen by PWD.

Preparations for the project have already started, including mobilizing machinery. It is noteworthy that the land was transferred to the Government of Mizoram on March 15, 2025, and the redevelopment efforts have begun within a year of this transfer.
