Governor convenes a meeting with key officials from revenue, forest and fci on construction of fci godown at sairang

Mizoram Governor Pu Indra Sena Reddy Nallu today convened a meeting with key officials from Land Revenue & Settlement (LR&S), Environment, Forests & Climate Change (EF&CC) and Food Corporation of India (FCI) to discuss matters related to construction of FCI Godown at Sairang which is temporarily put on hold due to notice and stay order from the Ministry of EF&CC. Governor Pu Indra Sena Reddy Nallu stressed on the importance of detailed preliminary investigation on the alloted site before actual execution of infrastructural development of various projects to avoid issues that will delay the progress during the course of construction. In this connection, he reiterated the need for proper consultations between concerned departments at the initial stage before the execution of works.

He urged the concerned officials to resolve the demands of the Central Government as soon as possible as services of the FCI Godown is very essential for PDS implementation in the state. During the meeting, he also pointed out other projects that have already started on ground and are underway but have been stopped due to some obstacles and needed to be resolved soon. In the meeting, report on construction of FCI Godown, work progress, ongoing legal issues regarding the encroachment of Riverine Reserved Forest (RRF) which ultimately led to issuance of stay order from the Ministry were also discussed at length. It was mentioned that the Compensatory Afforestation (CF) land for this purpose has already been acquired. The meeting discussed and considered the impact of this delay and how it affects the smooth operation of providing essential services to the people. Subsequently, the meeting also resolved to find an amicable solutions for the problems  that cropped up in this construction of FCI Godown at the earliest. 

FCI Godown construction work at Sairang was started in 2021 on 3.1 hectares of FCS&CA Department land to construct godown with a storage capacity to store 10,000 Metric Tons (MT) of food grains. The design includes three main buildings, out of which construction of 5,000 MT and the 2,500 MT building is almost completed. At this point, the third building with a capacity of 2,500 MT and other facilities included in the project are yet to start.
