Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati today morning held a meeting with NHIDCL-Regional Office Aizawl officials at Raj Bhavan. Power Point Presentation on National Highway construction works carried out by NHIDCL at 8 sites in Mizoram was presented. In this meeting, NHIDCL officials explained why works on Vairengte-Sairang and other important roads cannot be carried out. NHIDCL officials said that road construction works in some areas are hampered by private initiatives and opposition. Their biggest problem is that the two concerned government departments cannot reach an agreement on their dispute over land ownership.
In response to the reports by the NHIDCL, the Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati said that NHIDCL workers should not give up hope and should strive harder to find solutions to their problems so that NH road widening and NH road construction projects can be carried out smoothly and as soon as possible. Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati voiced his concern that the construction of Vairengte-Sairang 4 lane NH road, Mizoram’s lifeline should not be put on hold for a very long period due to the dispute of two concerned departments. In this connection, the Governor advised the two departments should do their utmost to resolve the issues between them. Dulte-Champhai (NH-6) is at present the only completed project among the eight projects being implemented by NHIDCL in Mizoram. Aizawl – Tuipang (NH -54) is 91% completed and is expected to be completed by December this year. Seling-Dulte (NH-6) is 95% completed, Lunglei-Tlabung (NH-302) is 43% completed and Keifang-Tuival (NH-102B) is 56% completed.
Project for Zorinpui-Longmasu (NH-502 A) road was awarded in February 2023 but could not be constructed due to pending land acquisition and forest clearance. 4 Laning of Vairengte-Sairang (NH-306 & 6) Aizawl Bypass (NH-6) Sairang-Aizawl road construction project is not yet started due the dispute between two departments over ownership of the land marked for road construction site. In this meeting, the NHIDCL was represented by Mr. Virender Jokhar, Executive Director (Project), Mr. Dhairya Vaibhav, Sr. Manager (Projects) and other officials.
