Mizoram Governor Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd) today inaugurated ‘Financial Literacy Week 2025’, organized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) at the Auditorium of Mizoram Rural Bank (MRB) Head Office, MINECO in Aizawl, where he also launched the Financial Literacy Messages Booklets, which will be distributed to 513 libraries across Mizoram to spread financial literacy. This year, the Financial Literacy Week theme is ‘Financial Literacy – Women’s Prosperity’. In his inaugural address, Governor Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh extended his regards to RBI for observing Financial Literacy week and choosing a theme in line with the Vikshit Bharat 2047, a vision for a self-reliant India. While expresseing his appreciation for the Reserve Bank of India’s annual awareness programs aimed at educating the general public, he laued this year’s theme which focuses on empowering women. The selected themes for action is a clear vision of empowering our women from diverse backgrounds, he said.
The Governor also highlighted various steps taken by the central government for credit guarantee, social security and entrepreneurship. Further, he urged all the banks and financial institutions in the state to take it as a challenge, make an earnest effort in a mission mode to ensure that every person of the state is brought under the ambit of formal financial system, so that all eligible persons can avail full benefits of financial inclusion and social security schemes along with the credit guarantee systems. He also made an appeal to the media fraternity to give wide publicity of this Financial Literacy Week for the benefit of the people of Mizoram. Shri T. Lhungdim, General Manager and Officer-In-Charge, RBI Aizawl, in his keynote address informed that the Reserve Bank of India has been observing Financial Literacy Week (FLW) every year since 2016 on a specific theme targeted at segments of the population. He mentioned that this year Financial Literacy Week marks the 10th edition of this initiative and the objective behind observing Financial Literacy Week is to spread awareness among people about key financial topics through focused campaigns. He also informed that RBI shall be undertaking a centralized mass media campaign during this week to broadcast essential financial awareness messages on the theme.
Smt. Pankaja Borah, Officer-In-Charge, NABARD, Mizoram RO; Shri Hubert S.Z. Khobung, Regional Manager, State Bank of India, Mizoram RBO; Smt. Sheryl Vanchhong, Chairman, Mizoram Rural Bank and Shri Lallungmuana, CEO, Mizoram Co-operative Apex Bank Ltd. were the other speaker of the inaugural program held today. They all appreciated the efforts of the regulator and committed to further the cause of financial literacy for the state of Mizoram with more focus and enthusiasm. Earlier today, Shri T. Lhungdim flagged off the Financial Literacy Van, which will be touring five districts viz Aizawl, Serchhip, Lunglei, Hnahtial and Saitual, during the week to disseminate the Financial Literacy Week themes and its sub themes along with other financial literacy contents for the local people at their doorstep.
