Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson has announced plans to locally manufacture all telecom gear it sells in India, including future 6G technology, according to a senior official. Andres Vicente, Head of Market Area Southeast Asia, Oceania, and India at Ericsson, stated at the India Mobile Congress 2025 that while 6G trials are expected to begin by 2028, commercial rollout will take longer. “Our goal is to produce in India everything we sell in India,” Vicente said.

Currently, Ericsson manufactures 4G and 5G equipment in India, which is also exported to several Asian countries. The company recently began producing passive antennas in India through a collaboration with VVDN Technologies and has expanded its ASIC (application-specific integrated chip) R&D operations in Bengaluru, with plans to grow the team to 150 members.

Vicente emphasized the importance of boosting local value addition and building a comprehensive component ecosystem in India. He highlighted the need for investment in components like filters, batteries, and closures to reduce dependence on imports.

Additionally, Ericsson, in partnership with the World Food Programme, is deploying 5G-powered ‘Grain ATM Annapurti’ kiosks in India, which dispense 25–30 kg of food grains in 30 seconds using Aadhaar-based biometric verification.
