The JK Tyre-powered India Racing Festival concluded in Mizoram on April 16 with high-octane excitement, even as heavy rain tested the resilience of both performers and spectators. Thousands gathered to witness India’s finest motorsport talents in action, with a historic highlight being the first-ever car drift around Mizoram’s traditional Cheraw Dance — a spectacle blending speed and culture.
Motorsport icons including Sohil Shah (F4), Yatharth Gaur and Aarav Sureka (GoKarts), Sandeep Kumar (IRL), and stunt performers like Ashwin Singh Takiar and Sanam Sekhon captivated the crowd. The event began with local heroes Mizo Superbikers and stunt riders Mrs. Awmawmi and Mr. Francis, and featured musical performances by Lalhmangaiha and LiLZO, adding a local touch to the festival’s pulse.
JK Tyre’s Head of Operations Hari Singh hailed Mizoram’s unmatched driving discipline and reiterated the company’s commitment to nurturing local talent. Chief Convener Lalfakzuala Hauzel acknowledged the role of sponsors like GIG Motors, NEXA Aizawl, and local institutions. In Aizawl, the event sparked a noticeable rise in demand for motorsport merchandise, biking gear, and auto accessories. Retailers reported heightened consumer footfall, signaling potential for a niche motorsports economy.
The festival shifts gears to Shillong on April 19.
