Mizoram’s Rajya Sabha member, K. Vanlalvena, announced that the Ministry of Railways has implemented special train services to alleviate the significant travel hardships experienced by passengers during the Christmas season. The initiative was prompted by the overwhelming number of travelers heading to Mizoram and neighboring states for the festivities. According to the schedule, a special train will depart from Guwahati on Monday, returning from Aizawl via Sairang railway station on Tuesday, while another service will operate on Wednesday from Guwahati and return on Thursday. Each train will consist of 14 coaches.
This new service aims to provide essential relief for passengers traveling from Guwahati, Delhi, and other parts of India who have struggled to obtain confirmed tickets due to an acute shortage of available seats on regular train services. Passengers who were unable to secure reservations on the usual services can utilize these additional trains between Guwahati and Aizawl.
Vanlalvena emphasized the urgency of addressing the travel difficulties in the Rajya Sabha, pointing out that residents of Mizoram and the nearby state of Manipur face considerable challenges because of the limited seating on trains linking Aizawl with key cities like Guwahati, Delhi, and Kolkata. This issue is exacerbated during the busy Christmas season, highlighting the need for expanded rail services during peak travel times.
