The three-day Lemchan – Mizoram Film Festival 2026, organized for the first time through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the National Film Development Corporation, and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Government of Mizoram, commenced today at the I&PR Office, Treasury Square. The inaugural programme was held at the Mini Theatre, Lianchhiari Run, where the festival was formally inaugurated by Pu B. Lalchhanzova, Minister for Information, Public Relations, Printing & Stationery (IPRP&S) Department.
In his address, Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova expressed his delight at the organization of the first-ever Mizoram Film Festival. He stated that Mizoram is blessed with many talented and creative individuals, and that this festival provides an important platform for local filmmakers to showcase their talents and present Mizo stories to the world. He also expressed the desire for greater collaboration with other regions in the field of filmmaking and noted that the festival would serve as an important step forward for Mizoram’s progress in the film industry. The Minister further highlighted that film is a powerful medium for storytelling that not only entertains and educates people but also creates livelihood opportunities for the youth. He conveyed his best wishes for the festival and hoped that filmmakers, artists, and all attendees would have an enjoyable and fruitful experience.
Pi Betsy Zothanpari Sailo, Secretary, IPRP&S, welcomed the gathering and commended the Directorate of Information & Public Relations for taking the initiative to organize the festival. She also expressed her gratitude to the film experts invited from different parts of India for taking the time to attend and participate in the event.
Pi Lilette Dubey, a renowned Bollywood personality who has acted in numerous films, also addressed the gathering. She expressed her happiness at being invited to attend the Mizoram Film Festival and spoke about how cinema and music retain their value across generations and serve as powerful forces that connect people of different cultures and languages.
Pi Gouri Nair, Head of Domestic Film Festival, NFDC, also delivered a speech in which she expressed hope that the festival would become an important catalyst for the growth of the film industry in Mizoram and the North-East region.
Lemchan – Mizoram Film Festival will be held at the I&PR Office, Treasury Square, from 16–18 March 2026. During the three-day festival, various learning sessions with film experts will be conducted, and selected films from different states as well as Mizo films will be screened. Film professionals from various parts of India have also been invited to participate in the festival.
