Lemchan–Mizoram Film Festival 2026 Kicks Off in Aizawl

The three-day Lemchan–Mizoram Film Festival 2026 commenced on Monday at the I&PR Office in Treasury Square, Aizawl, with joint organization by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations. The inaugural ceremony took place at the Mini Theatre and was marked by the presence of various dignitaries, including B. Lalchhanzova, Mizoram’s Minister for Information, Public Relations, Printing & Stationery, who served as the chief guest.

In his remarks, Lalchhanzova called the festival Mizoram’s first major film festival, highlighting the region’s abundant creative talent. He emphasized that the event would allow local filmmakers to exhibit their work and convey Mizo narratives to a broader audience, underscoring the importance of collaboration in the creative industry. He remarked on the powerful role of cinema as a medium that entertains, educates, and fosters economic opportunities, particularly for youth, expressing the hope that participants would reap benefits from the festival, ultimately contributing to the development of Mizoram’s film industry.

The welcome address was delivered by IPR&P Secretary Betsy Zothanpari Sailo, who acknowledged the Directorate of Information & Public Relations for organizing the event and extended gratitude to film experts participating from across India. Renowned Bollywood actress Lillete Dubey also addressed the audience, discussing the lasting impact of cinema and music and their capacity to bridge generational and cultural divides.

Gouri Nair, Head of Domestic Film Festival at NFDC, conveyed aspirations that the festival would serve as a catalyst for advancing the film industry in Mizoram and the broader Northeast region. Scheduled from March 16 to 18, 2026, the festival will host learning sessions with film experts, screenings of selected films from various states, including Mizo films, and the involvement of film professionals from diverse parts of the country.
