Locals join hands for health: Awareness events held in Serchhip and Aizawl

As part of the 8th anniversary of Rashtriya Poshan Maah, a ‘2000 Steps a Day Challenge’ rally was organized today in Serchhip to raise awareness about maternal and child health. The event saw active participation from staff under the District Programme Office, Women & Child Development. The rally was a joint initiative of the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), One Stop Centre (OSC), Shakti Sadan, Child Development Project Office (CDPO), Serchhip ICDS staff, along with Anganwadi workers and helpers. Participants marched from Serchhip AOC Square to Bazar Traffic Point, encouraging the public to embrace physical activity for better health.

Concluding at the Bazar Traffic Point, the rally was followed by a health pledge and a signature campaign aimed at reinforcing commitment towards better nutrition and wellness. In a parallel event, the same programme was conducted at the Anganwadi Centre in Khatla, Aizawl. Organized by Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Field Office Aizawl, under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the event aimed to educate the public on the goals of Poshan Maah. Anganwadi workers, breastfeeding mothers, local residents, and health professionals attended the event. Addressing the gathering, Lalginlen Lhouvum, In-Charge of CBC Aizawl, emphasized the core objectives of Poshan Maah in combating malnutrition and promoting health awareness.

Khatla Local Council Chairman and Chief Guest, Pu C. Lalmuanpuia, urged the community to take collective responsibility in ensuring access to nutritious food. He also praised Anganwadi workers for their continued efforts in addressing malnutrition. Dr. Shirleen Lalhriatzuali, who served as a resource speaker, highlighted the critical role of breastfeeding for infants under six months and stressed the importance of maternal nutrition. She also called on the community to support mothers’ mental well-being and ensure access to healthy food during the breastfeeding period.
