Inaugural function of Fire Prevention Week 2024 organised by Siaha District Level Fire Prevention Committee, was held at Forest Conference Hall, MADC on Tuesday in Siaha under the banner of ‘Thapi phiapa ta meikâ pua awpa vaih ei suh vy’ (We should take significant steps to avoid catastrophic wildfire from occurring. Chief Guest on the occassion, Deputy Chief Executive Member S. Lalremthanga said, “Climate change has left scientists baffled, but as an ordinary citizens our focus should be on preventing wildfires, which is something each of us can do as individuals. Taking action in this way is one of the most significant contributions.”
Higlighting the cause of domestic fire, he said, “Negligence is the leading cause of domestic fires, primarily stemming from faulty wiring. If we aim to prevent such incidents, it becomes crucial to engage a professional electrician.”The Chief Guest further said that due to the insufficient availability of recreational facilities for the youth, they often congregate near the river during the summer, which unfortunately leads to frequent wildfires caused by irresponsible individuals unintentionally sparking fires along the riverbanks.
Stressing the need to spread awareness amongst the youths, he said, “It is of utmost importance for students to comprehend the ecological consequences caused by these wildfires.” The inaugural function was led by Lalnunmawii, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Siaha and a technical report was given by Thaly T.Azyu, Conservator of forests & Member Secretary, District Level Fire Prevention Committee.
