Manipur state minister N Biren Singh declared that the forest department and security forces had successfully eradicated poppy growing on 90 acres in the Ukhrul district. Targeting illegal poppy production in the area’s rugged terrain, the operation was carried out on Thursday. Twelve huts connected to the illicit activity were also burned as part of the operation. “For more inquiry, a formal complaint has been filed. “I commend the unified forces for the prompt and well-coordinated actions,” Singh continued.

Before the harvest season, police in Manipur burned four acres of illegal poppy cultivation in the Churachandpur area, which is close to the Myanmar border. The operation was carried out in the Haopi Mollen hill range on Wednesday under the supervision of an executive magistrate. A united team comprising the Executive Magistrate, the Forest Department, the 37 Assam Rifles, and the Manipur Police carried out the destruction based on intelligence.
