Medanta has initiated construction of its 400+ bed super-speciality hospital in Guwahati, a development seen as a major boost to the Northeast healthcare industry. The Bhoomi Poojan ceremony, held on October 31, was attended by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma alongside Medanta Chairman & Managing Director Dr. Naresh Trehan and Group CEO Pankaj Sahni, signalling strong institutional support for advanced medical infrastructure growth in the region.

The upcoming facility at Sarusajai Industrial Estate along NH-27 represents a capital deployment of approximately ₹500 crore. It will offer comprehensive tertiary and quaternary care capabilities, including organ and robotic transplantation programs, cardiac and neuro sciences, oncology, orthopaedics, trauma and emergency care, diagnostics, and preventive health services. Industry analysts note that the project is also expected to generate 5,000–7,000 direct and indirect jobs, stimulating ancillary sectors including diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and professional services.

Dr. Trehan emphasised equitable access to advanced medical treatment as Medanta’s core mission, while Sahni underlined Guwahati’s role as a gateway to serving over 50 million people across the Northeast.

Medanta’s entry is expected to strengthen the regional referral ecosystem, reduce healthcare travel costs, and expand access to high-end diagnostics and specialist care for Nagaland residents. Stakeholders anticipate increased interest from private healthcare operators and support service providers as the regional healthcare market scales to meet rising demand.
