Medanta has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Mizoram for empanelment under the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS). The agreement enables all registered MUHCS beneficiaries to avail cashless treatment across Medanta’s six multi-specialty hospitals located in Gurugram, Noida, Lucknow, Patna, Indore and Ranchi.
The MoU positions Medanta as a key tertiary care partner for Mizoram, allowing patients access to advanced and specialised healthcare without upfront costs. Medanta Chairman and Managing Director Naresh Trehan said the partnership reflects the group’s commitment to underserved regions, adding that quality healthcare must be treated as a right. He noted that the initiative would help reduce the financial burden on patients while ensuring timely and dignified care.
From a healthcare demand perspective, Mizoram faces structural challenges, including limited access to specialised treatment and the highest cancer incidence rate in India, as indicated by long-term studies. Geographic and infrastructural gaps in primary healthcare have also resulted in low cancer screening levels, reinforcing the need for reliable referral pathways to tertiary centres.
Welcoming the tie-up, Lalhriatzuali Ralte, CEO of the Mizoram State Health Care Society and State Health Agency, said the association provides a structured route for patients to seek quality treatment across six world-class facilities, reducing delays and emotional stress for families.
Mizoram represents a high-need, under-penetrated healthcare segment with rising demand for oncology and super-specialty services. The MUHCS–Medanta collaboration is expected to drive patient outflow to organised tertiary centres, improve treatment outcomes, and deepen trust in institutional healthcare among beneficiaries, potentially reshaping long-term healthcare utilisation patterns in the state.
Reinforcing its regional strategy, Medanta has announced plans to develop a 400-plus bed super-specialty hospital in Guwahati, alongside launching a dedicated North-East helpline (8904395588).
