Methamphetamine worth Rs 290.55 lakhs seized in Champhai district

In a significant operation led by SI Lalmuanpuia Sailo of Champhai Police Station, 22.35 kgs of Methamphetamine worth ₹290.55 lakhs were seized during random vehicle checks at Chalbawiha Junction, Khankawn Police Check Gate, Champhai District, on May 6. The seizure comprised 2,00,000 tablets concealed inside two travel bags of violet and brown color, further hidden under clothes inside an auto-rickshaw with registration number MZ-04-5870. Each bundle contained five small brown bundles, with each small bundle comprising 10 black color sachets, and each sachet holding 200 tablets (pink color plus 2 green color).

The police investigation led to the apprehension of five individuals involved in the transportation and distribution of the contraband:

VL Zama (48) – Alleged consigner/kingpin.

Lalrochhara (33) – Accompanying sumo driver.

Vanlalruati (45) – Wife of VL Zama, suspected of involvement.

Krishna Dhan Sharma (45) – Truck driver assigned to transport the contraband items from Aizawl using his truck with registration number NL-01AH-0938.
