In a significant move toward fostering entrepreneurship and skill development, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) launched 30 Entrepreneurship Development Centres (EDCs) at the Northeast Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Conclave 2024, held at IIM Shillong. Hon’ble Minister Jayant Chaudhary led the event, urging Northeast states to drive regional cooperation under the “Act First for Northeast” policy.

Chaudhary emphasized the need for a unified vision to elevate the region’s potential, highlighting improved connectivity, skilled youth, and the government’s focus on Northeast development. He announced 30 EDCs and four Incubation Centers aimed at generating 900 startups across the region, alongside programs to train 600 mentors and provide seed grants.

The initiative aims to blend traditional craftsmanship with modern market demands. The focus on skilled artisans like bamboo craftsmen and woodcarvers aligns with emerging industry needs, creating a sustainable economic ecosystem. In Aizawl, this initiative promises to boost local entrepreneurship by creating a platform for artisans and startups to compete in wider markets, further integrating the city’s unique cultural and economic assets into the national economy.
