Union home minister Amit Shah has promised Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma that he will expeditiously pursue the Mizoram (Maintenance of Household Registers) Bill 2019, still pending with the President of India in order to ensure that the bill will immediately has the assent of President Droupadi Murmu, an official statement said on Tuesday. The issue regarding the lone Lengpui Airport near Aizawl city and its association with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) was also raised and the home minister said the Union Cabinet is expected to take it up.During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the ‘Bana-kaih scheme’ or Handholding Scheme – flagship programme of the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) in the state, the proposed Thenzawl Peace City project, and other key initiatives for which Mizoram seeks central financial assistance.
The Home Minister mentioned that the issues would be requiring joint deliberations between the union home minister, Mizoram CM and the union finance minister and would be taken up during the forthcoming Parliament session. The official statement said Lalduhoma’s request for deployment of bigger helicopters and improved air connectivity for Mizoram was well received. In addition, the upgrading the existing central industrial security force (CISF) deployment at Lengpui Airport—as part of the Police Modernisation Scheme—was discussed, for which the union home minister assured necessary support.
The CM also met union minister of state for fisheries, animal husbandry & dairying George Kurian on Tuesday when they discussed about five proposals submitted under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) – establishment of integrated aqua park at Zawlnuam town in Mamit district bordering Tripura, projects to be implemented in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), detailed project report (DPRs) submitted by Mizoram Fish Farmers and Animal & Husbandry, Dairy Producers & Marketing Association as well as DPRs submitted by Mizoram Cooperative Fish Farming Marketing and Processing Federation Limited and Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC). Lalduhoma asked Kurian to expedite sanctioning of funds for the projects to which the latter promised to pursue the matters.
