Mizo LS MP opposed FMR

C. Lalrosanga, lone Lok Sabha member from Mizoram on Saturday, the day the current Parliament budget session drew to a close, expressed his displeasure to Union Home Minister Amit Shah that his questions submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs have remained unanswered till monday. In a letter submitted to Shah, Lalrosanga said that his questions submitted to the MHA were related mostly to Manipur situation and Indo-Myanmar issues.He expressed opinion that the MHA refused to give replies to his questions on the ground that they were sensitive issues relating to law and order situations.The MP said that he has been asking for clarity on the issues of Indo-Myanmar fencing and scrapping of Free Movement Regime (FMR) between the two countries.

“I asked for clarity as there has been no official statement on the related issues in the Parliament till today,” Lalrosanga said.“I had also asked whether the Government will reconsider its reported decision to go ahead with Indo-Myanmar border fencing and scrapping of FMR in view of age old historical ethnic ties among the people on both sides of the international border spanning cultural, religious, historical and commercial ties,” Lalrosanga said.He requested Shah to provide clarity on the mentioned issues and reconsider his decisions on the issues, if already taken, to obviate for reaching humanitarian crisis on both sides of the border.

Lalrosanga, elected in 2019 Parliamentary general elections on then ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), was amember of the Indian Information Service (IIS) from 1982 to 1991 and belonged to the Indian Broadcasting (Programme) Service (IBPS) from 1991 till his retirement in 2016.He was the first Mizo News Reader of All India Radion (AIR) Aizawl and rose to become Additional Director General of AIR and Director General of Doordarshan after heading several stations and offices in the North-Eastern region in various capacities.
